If I could share one piece of knowledge with you that I’ve had to learn the hard way it’s that - sometimes self-care is not about immediate gratification, but long term health.
Sometimes you have to cut a toxic friend or partner out and at first it hurts like hell, but it increases your future sense of serenity ten fold. Sometimes you have to skip on that next Netflix episode so you can get a bit of extra sleep and get through your week with more energy and mental clarity. Sometimes you have to choose healthier foods, because even though it might not taste as great as cake, your hormones and internal environment will be more balanced and set you up for long term happiness. Don’t get me wrong, there is a place for short term gratification in self-care, but make sure that you’re not sacrificing long term happiness and health through unbalanced indulgence.
